IRL, this 21-year-old model, who grew up in Vesterbro in Copenhagen, the son of a Danish mother and French father, is not as unapproachable as he looked at Saint Laurent. Partial to a smile emoticon or two, this Dane was discovered on Facebook in 2017. “I was only about 170cm, so it wasn’t until 2020 where I was tall enough and contacted them again. Shortly after they set me up with a Danish agent and I did my first runway for Valentino,” he explained in an email exchange. Paris is great for work, but Flerquin prefers Copenhagen. “In Denmark we have a saying ude godt, hjemme bedst (away is good, home is best—(it sounds better in Danish), which I agree with.”

Off the catwalk Fleurquin is often found in the Nørrebro neighborhood (Copenhagen’s LES), drinking coffee at “Minas Kaffebar” or having a drink while playing darts or billiards at “Dilligencen.” He finds his passion for video games (TF2, CS:GO, Overwatch, and Fortnite) waning as his interest in music continues to grow. A Rothskilde attendee since he was 15, Fleurquin is in his techno phase. “I almost only listen to trance, mainly forest trance, psytrance, and progressive trance. My favorite label is a local one, called “Kontoret Records” which translates as ‘the office records,’” he explains. His top artist at the moment is called Ka-sol.

KITH just opened a sprawling 5,500 square foot space on Rodeo Drive that is its second Los Angeles location. Understandably, it was also the inspiration for its spring collection. “If you look at the store, you’ll see a lot of travertine and these different color marbles,” KITH’s creative director Ronnie Fieg explained over Zoom the day after the store’s opening party. “The monochrome feel of the collection, the beige, the lighter colors, and textures, but more importantly, the luxe feel of what we did on Rodeo really speaks to the apparel.”

For a few seasons now, Fieg has placed an emphasis on KITH’s fabrics and materials to closely reflect his own personal interests and mirror his personal style. “When people think about me and the brand, I really want them to start paying attention to the fabrics, and for us to be known for our fabrics,” Fieg said. “I never want to charge for the logo.”

This was evident in the Bulgarian pinstripe double weave fabric, which the brand has been working with for a few seasons now. Fieg considers it to be part of KITH’s “suiting” range—and it’s shown to full effect in the last look of the collection. A short sleeve shirt and matching trousers was made in a black with gray pinstripes. The shirt was worn open, as a jacket, over a white t-shirt and a vest. It’s all a very relaxed elegance.

Patchwork was a big theme this season, and was most successful in the knitwear, including the cardigans made from panels of different knit gauges: thin ribs, cable knits, and so on, one in shades of tan, oatmeal, and off-white, and another in a pleasing palette of light aqua, lime, and gray. Elsewhere, a patchworked suede jacket had been treated to achieve a rib texture that looked like corduroy at first glance. “It’s the same suede imported from the UK that’s used for Clarks; they use this suede on their wallabies, so we took that fabric and applied it to the jacket,” Fieg explained. “It’s probably the most luxe piece of outerwear in the collection.” Clarks has long been a collaborator with KITH, and this season, Fieg took that collaboration a step further by bringing Adidas into the mix. His take on the ever-popular Adidas Samba shoe features Clarks’s trademark crepe sole.

Paisley prints are a go-to in KITH collections and there were many of them here. A lightweight jacket and matching shorts made from quilted lightweight cotton poplin (worn under a utilitarian jacket for a bit of edge) was printed with a sort of overcrowded paisley, like a vine left unattended. On a Japanese indigo wash coach jacket, the paisley had been deconstructed into its elements, and separated into different panels which were then pieced together. Underneath, a navy and white intarsia knit also showcased the signature curvilinear shapes of a paisley print, pushed even further into new territory.

“We shot our spring 2023 campaign at the Copacabana Palace— it’s a legendary hotel where everyone from Marlene Dietrich and Ginger Rogers to Brigitte Bardot and Princess Diana have stayed. Much of it looks the same as it did in the 1940s,” Bonaldi says. A can’t-miss, according to the designer? The hotel’s lavish breakfast (she jokes that, although it’s “basic,” she loves their avocado toast) as well as cocktail hour on their terrace, where caipirinhas abound.

She also spent a few days at Fasano Rio de Janeiro, which Bonaldi describes as “a stunning, modern hotel.” Designed by Phillipe Starck, the hotel is indeed an exemplary ode to modernist architecture and interiors: the glass, wood, and metal building is adorned with furniture from famed designers such as Gaetano Pesce, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Sergio Rodruigues. Meanwhile, Fasano al Mare, the hotel’s restaurant, is known as one of, if not the, finest in Rio.

Where to Eat

Bonaldi stresses that, when in Brazil, you can’t really go wrong cuisine-wise: “The food in Brazil in general is amazing! Rio in particular has amazing fresh seafood, fruit and vegetables, delicious stewy things, and, of course, pão de queijo. If you’ve never tried it, the first time is life-changing,” she says.

Still, she does have a few favorite places to dine. The first: Aprazivel, which is nestled away in the leafy hills of Santa Teresa. “It’s got a cool, relaxed vibe with an amazing view and even better food and cocktails,” she says. Meanwhile, Oteque in Botafago puts a contemporary twist on regional classics with its seasonal tasting menu, which at the moment offers oysters with brazil nut milk and roast baroa with raw button mushrooms. “The food is so special and really highlights the best dishes and ingredients Rio has to offer,” Bonaldi says.

Dear Shon, 

I recently broke up with my partner of five years. He was the sweetest and kindest boyfriend I’ve ever had, and he’s probably the first one who has ever respected me and seen me as a person.

However, the mental and physical effort of carrying him through life was exhausting. I couldn’t trust that he could handle things, the way I could, on his own. It was on my mind when we spoke about marriage and children. At times, I felt like his mother and not his partner and that’s quite a responsibility—one that I didn’t ask for.

Six months prior to breaking up, I voiced my concerns and we both agreed to work on the relationship. But by the end, it felt like I didn’t love him as a partner anymore. I’m mourning quite a loss as we started off as friends.

I’ve made the mistake of stalking his social media accounts, where he constantly talks about me “using him and throwing him away” and “not fighting for our relationship,” which isn’t true at all and makes me feel awful. I want a lot better for him, and it hurts to see that he doesn’t see it that way.

But in all of this, it’s made me ask: Am I a bad person for breaking up with him in this way?

Dear Regretfully Online,

The older I get, the more I am starting to consider the way we collectively acclimated to social media in the past decade to be highly dysfunctional. We are not supposed to have this much access to what other people think, say, and do. I think our sanity in relating to other people depended on our partial ignorance about them. Knowledge isn’t always power: Too much of it (such as when your crush was last online or what teenagers on TikTok think of your smile) can actually remind you of how little is in your control and produce a kind of angst our grandparents would have lived and died without ever needing to entertain. Never is this more true than with the modern breakup. Fifty years ago, if you broke it off with someone, you didn’t have to see the hurt you inflicted for very long. They may have ranted bitterly about you to their closest friends on a corded phone, but they didn’t have the platform to broadcast their anger more widely nor the belief that other adults are interested in such pettiness. Your ex, in 2023, unfortunately has both.

It’s safe to say Beyoncé was one of the most-anticipated guests—okay, the most-anticipated guest—at the Grammy Awards this evening. The Renaissance singer nabbed a whopping nine nominations tonight, making her also the most-nominated artist this year. But when the red carpet began, there was no sign of Queen B; when the official ceremony began, still no sign of Queen B. It wasn’t until well over an hour into the show that Beyoncé and Jay-Z finally arrived. While she was reportedly stuck in traffic, she gave new meaning to the term “fashionably late.” 

Her mixed metallics Gucci gown was well worth the wait. With a long silver skirt with cascading ruffles, it fell in line with the disco-ready vibe she’s been embodying during her Renaissance era. The singer went on to accept four Grammys tonight, including Best R&B Song (“Cuff It”); She now holds the most Grammy wins ever (a staggering 32 awards). After her live ceremony appearance, the singer followed up her Gucci dress with an Instagram post of her holding her new trophies. The look consisted of a sculptural, off-the-shoulder dress by Balmain with a golden, armor-like bodice underneath—not to mention a circular headpiece, which matched her new Grammys. Two bold ensembles in one night! The only thing that could have topped it off was a performance look—but you’ll just have to wait for her tour for that. If you can score tickets, that is. 

Dr. Jill Biden’s dress for the 65th annual Grammy Awards may seem a bit familiar. When the first lady presented the award for song of the year to Bonnie Raitt on Sunday night (for “Just Like That”), she proved that great design deserves to be appreciated more than once, wearing an off-the-shoulder Oscar de la Renta gown with a botanical cutout lace pattern. She had, in fact, flaunted the same silhouette and pattern for the state dinner with French president Emmanuel Macron and first lady Brigitte Macron last December. Who among us hasn’t purchased a top or a dress in another color because we liked it so much? 

Whereas in December, Dr. Biden wore the style in navy, to tie into the red, white, and blue theme of the dinner, for the Grammys, she wore a version of the look in silver sequins—fitting for such a star-studded event.

While Dr. Biden stood out against the other guests, presenters, and nominees—there weren’t many other political figures attending the Grammys—she’s not the first woman in her position to appear at the show. Former first lady Michelle Obama attended in 2019, when she discussed the power of music with Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, and Jada Pinkett-Smith. (She also opted for shimmer with a dark gray blouse and pants.) Obama and former first lady Hillary Clinton have also won Grammys themselves, for the audiobooks of their memoirs Becoming and It Takes a Village, respectively. Clinton attended in 1997 to accept the award. 

With her gown, Dr. Biden showed off the enduring power of good style—and made a case for sticking to your signatures. If a look works for you, buy it in multiple colorways. 

Harry Styles is not only performing at tonight’s 65^th annual Grammy Awards, but he’s also taking on the night with a whopping six nominations—including in buzzy categories like Best Album (Harry’s House) and Best Song (As It Was). All this is to say: It’s definitely his night to shine. Just before the event kicked off, Styles did just that by bringing forward his signature silhouette—the jumpsuit—to the red carpet. It’s been a go-to for his stage performances, so why wouldn’t he slip into a chic one-piece for music’s biggest night?

Styles’s graphic, low-cut look this evening, styled by Harry Lambert, was courtesy of the Parisian label Egonlab. Featuring a multicolor diamond pattern, the chest-baring design was perfect for showing off Styles’s two pectoral tattoos of sparrows. Though he’s worn many jumpsuits over the years, from striped JW Anderson to bedazzled Gucci styles, this latest version tonight has a decidedly more Harlequin vibe. Since the fabric was made with Swarovski crystals, it needed minimal accessorizing. Styles just opted for a pair of heeled white boots. The question is: Will he perform in one, too?

Like it or not, peplums are creeping their way back into fashion. The dramatic silhouette—with an instantly recognizable flared, gathered, or pleated waist—had a major moment in the early 2010s, thanks to labels like Jil Sander and Lanvin. But we’ve seen the voluminous shape start reappearing on a handful of stars this past year, from Deepika Padukone to Alicia Vikander. The most recent A-lister on board with the look? Actor Florence Pugh, who also wore a peplum gown to the 43^rd annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards in London earlier today. 

Bringing a dose of high drama to the red carpet, Pugh—who was nominated for Best British/Irish Actress for her role in The Wonder—wore an all-red look with a fanned out peplum from Robert Wun’s spring 2023 couture collection. The strapless, floor-length gown was completed by a theatrical red brimmed hat and sweeping vail. After years of more sleek, pared-back shapes on the carpet, it seems Hollywood stars are clearly ready for a dash of 2010s excess again. The question is: Are you?

From bleached brows to fresh bobs, this week’s best beauty Instagrams centered on the extras that take above-neck looks from expected to aspirational.

For Emily Ratajkowksi, that added oomph translated to a new haircut, her fringed, touseled, and shapely chop skewing futuristic in its styling. Elsewhere, Lily Collins and Harris Reed paused for a beret-bedecked snap; Soo Joo used cute clips to pull focus to her peroxide brows; and Anya Taylor-Joy took her signature white blonde to the dunes. Dakota Fanning’s selfie also served to highlight the impact of her buttery lengths (and brickish lips), while Hailey Bieber showed off her new bob with a swish of glowing highlighter on the cheeks.
